Vietnam: New security ties and even new base agreement with USA seen…

It is true in politics there are no permanent enemies it would seem so in the global-political of world powers. As strange as it sounds the US-Vietnam security arrangement is a counter-balance to china's growing influence in the region.

The USA certainly knows one thing about Vietnamese resolve and military tactical skill first hand. Perhaps with the global counter-insurgency it is now fighting versus al qaeda- it is trying to touch base with the country that perfected modern insurgency and forced the US to withdraw in defeat from Vietnamese several decades ago.

Security ties may indeed see a return of the USA to bases in Cam Rhan Bay and Da Nang. So while others debate new expended ties or security boards the USA is talking to a former declared enemy it fought a war against to developing lasting ties.

On another front the Russians are trying to cash in on the US pullout from bases in Okinawa, Japan – the Russians have offered facilities access in places like Sakhalin Island- the once so super secret of Russian facilities that led to Korean Airline flight being shot down for having flown over it in 1986.

So… Vietnam, Russia, Thailand, Singapore, and Japan know they need someone to play super-cop in the reigon with fleets of ships and carriers and troops ready to go – even if only as counter balance to others in the regions ambitions.
