Trains & Trams : yesterday and today
YESTERDAY: Of Trains and Trams; looking about for some historic pictures of old manila in the Public domain I came across a photo of the old electric and horsedrawn tram system of manila circa the 1930's.
Such a shame these old trains are now lost to history – they were mostly destroyed in WW2 and in the rebuilding period of manila after the war most of the rails ended up on the scarp heap. Although some old rails do still exist in some parts of the metropolis.
TODAYS: Newest mass transit system is by far much more capable to old ones but it is sad to consider what could have been if the old trams could have been maintained. I do know from doing stories there are few copies of old tramivia's running on Corregidor Island. But owuldn't it be nice if such a system could be brought back in some places?
Todays latest addition seen here LRT3 – photo also from the Public domain – comes as a interesting addition to solving the gridlock over 11 million people in this mega-lopolis!
