Asian War on Terror: 21,000 in one week…. another untold story

Its a different way to fight the war on terror in the Province of Tawi Tawi, it was fought with Doctors, Dentists, and, medics working round the clock treating thousands of Patients in an area of this part of the world that was although on the fringes of the major zones of conflict between the Abu Sayyaf and Philippine Military which were more in the island provinces of Basilan and Sulu – the effort – almost unreported in Global Media outlets – shows that some things can be done without pitched battles – bombs and bullets. Such a shame… I know we often only report the bad- try as might my editors just want to ignore the story. So it ends up here… on my blog.

Instead of in living rooms around the world. Where people might want a bit of change from all the hate they see everyday and death and destruction- don't get me wrong- as journalists we have to report the truth – good or bad. But more often than not the good is ignored. How I wish I could post some of the comments by those desk jockeys or memo's from their bosses- to show more of this or that or this or that.

How I wish I had a camera and sound when some Executive producer yelled out for me to find more blood and guts and didnt want the real story on a show… just something to make people squirm a little bit more. But, in fairness those people are only doing their jobs there is this attitude in media that Bad sells and Good news goes last.

So here's this story… only on my blog… and few websites but a story i still get to tell even if its only here in my little corner of the web.

Shame its not a story you'll see many headlines about anywhere – other than blogs and few local small town papers. Others will dismiss the entire thing as a mater of just whats wrong with other parts of the conflict.

But everyday peace gets a chance, even in a small village in a region often so long torn by conflict it has to been as not a victory for one side or the other. But the human spirit which allows people to show care and kindness and yes- Gods love and understanding for one another.

It may only be respite from other conflicts and yes there were attempts to sow violence – but the man and women of the Navy Hospital Ship USNS Mercy and their Philippine counterparts did something more important than winning ground. They won back the peace in places so long filled with mistrust- they restored faith. In Areas where only blind hatred existed for so long- they brought in a little love.

Every moment peace get chance is victory afterall… every chance one person can help another and the other can see that not all the things they have been taught about 'the other side' is true- it moment we can all see a little bit of hope.
