AFP-ASG clashes on Jolo:

A day after six Philippine Marines were reported killed in clashes with Moro Rebels in Mindanao’s Sulu chain of islands on Jolo. New reports reaching manila put the Abu Sayyaf body count at nearly thirty in just one battle.

Commanders in the area note that in the past the groups other cells on Mindanao have engaged in attacks elsewhere and issued warnings for heightened security at ‘soft targets’ in the area.

The fighting would seem to be some of the heaviest in the area – this is all part of an effort to cut off escape routes and prevent the escape anew of leaders of the ASG and the Jemaah Islamiah allies they are reportedly protecting.

There is more than three quarters of a Billion pesos or roughly 17 million dollars in rewards are being offered versus the three most wanted in the pursuit operations. But reward money aside the men allegedly are also feared to creating new cells and making new bombs in the south as well as introducing new bomb making techniques.
