ASEAN SUMMIT: Performers poisoned but still put on a great show

Well – the show must go on even after a slight case of botalism. At least 60 people came down with what seems to be shellfish poisoning in cebu acrosding to reports. The joke is the food may have been put on ice from original date of the summit!

[] “….Food poisoning fells 60 for Asean show

Cebu – Food poisoning struck some 60 people who were supposed to perform on Sunday at a gala dinner for Asian leaders meeting in the central Philippines, organisers said. The performers were rushed to various hospitals in Cebu province, 585 kilometres south of Manila, early Sunday after suffering from severe stomach aches, diarrhoea and vomiting. … ” []

But the show on TV seems to have gone over well – was watching it and no mention of the sudden rush for the Hospital was made. It is not clear if the world leaders even knew of the aliement suffered by the entertainers.

So far it seems while terror is not a issue on this – food tasters may be a new request for delegations now weary of the buffet. The food Cebu and Cebuano’s are proud of and known for their hospitality is always good in my past visits there.

I am glad to know that the show went well. I was very worried when I heard of the food poisoning. It would have been very embarassing for us that our own performers were downed by food poison. We won’t hear the end of it from the delegates from Cambodia.

Shangrila mactan denies it was the food they served. Aquid and lechon (roasted pig) were the reason given. It could have also been the water or fuit drinks served.
There is a investigation ongoing. I’ll post the results as soon as i get copy.
