Abu Solaiman wounded in gunbattle on Jolo – AFP
Jainal Antal Sali, Jr. aka The Engineer, Abu Solajman, Abu Sulaiman, Abu Sulayman, best known as – Abu Solaiman; who started out as a ‘spokesman’ for the Islamic extremist group the Abu Sayyaf was reportedly hurt in an ‘encounter’ with Philippine government forces on Jolo Island.
The reports say a many as sixty men engaged in a gunbattle with Philippines police and soldiers seem to have inflicted casualties on the armed group.

Soliman, who rose to notoriety from call in radio and TV interviews he gave during the high profile phase of the Abu Sayyaf’s campaign of terrorist kidnappings was always seen of more of thinker and planner – than a field commander or fighter in the mold of other ASG figureheads then. But since that now he is seen as major player who is per Counter Terrorism Units a ‘big fish’ in the ASG – JI network.

Media interviews given by Solaiman were lengthy and often gave insights in the different factions of the ASG in the past when his statements did not match those given by ASG members in areas where the Abu Sayyaf held territory.
But with the loss of Abu Sabaya – who was killed after a extensive manhunt – Solaiman became more of a ‘popular’ safe interview for journalists covering the Sayyaf as he was based more in the vicinity of Mainland Mindanao than the other ‘key leaders’ who were in far flung areas of Jolo and Basilan.
His participation in raids and-coordination of bombing operations led to his direct inclusion in the list of the most wanted members of the Abu Sayyaf. He is alleged to have taken part in several major attacks directly or coordinating moves with other ASG leaders in Mindanao.
